A nigerian man identified as Mr John Ekundayo has explained the story behind a video which went viral sometime last year, showing his wife kneeling down to give him her salary. He clarified that his wife’s actions were based on support, not pressure.
He spoke alongside his wife, Mary Ekundayo, during an interview on Your View on TVC Communications. Addressing the issue, he said clearly that he never forced his wife to give him her salary. According to him, it happened during a period when he was out of work.
In his words, “It was when I didn’t have a job that my wife knelt down to give me her salary.” He explained that it was her personal decision to support the family at the time.
Mrs. Ekundayo also spoke about her beliefs, stating that her upbringing shaped her understanding of marriage. She said her mother taught her respect and submission, which she now practices willingly in her home.
She added that kneeling for her husband is a choice and a sign of respect, not an act of oppression.
Mr Ekundayo further noted that their marriage is built on mutual respect. He acknowledged that he listens to his wife and often considers her input in decision-making.
