I Brought Shame To My Family; My Dad Died When He Heard I’d Serve 15 Yrs In Swedish Prison -Chukwuka

Evang. Christian Chukwuka has spoken about the painful experience that followed his conviction for drug trafficking in Sweden, saying his actions brought shame to his family and contributed to the death of his father.

Chukwuka, who spent eight years in prison in Södertälje, south of Stockholm, shared his story during an interview on Nigeria Info FM.

He said his parents were respected people from Nnewi and had never committed any crime, describing himself as the only person who brought shame to his family.

According to him, the most painful moment came when he learned that his father had died after hearing that he would spend 15 years in a Swedish prison.

Chukwuka said his father was his best friend and that losing him left him bitter, angry and feeling that he had lost everything.

He recalled that his time in prison changed him, making him highly aggressive despite not being naturally violent. He said he often became ready to fight whenever he felt someone was staring at him for too long.

Chukwuka also revealed that his emotional pain became so severe that he once considered ending his life, but he had nothing available to harm himself with.

He said the loss of his father made him question what he was living for, as he felt he had nothing left to lose.

In his words, “I was the only person that brought shame to my family, and the worst that happened to me was to tell me that my father died when he heard I would serve 15 years in prison. I was killing my own biological father.”
