Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, has replied to an X user who wished him a “miserable death” after he paid tribute to the late Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs.
The user, Nonso, responded to Omokri’s tribute with a death wish directed at the former presidential aide.
Omokri said he examined the user’s X profile and found that he had similarly wished several other people a “miserable death” within the past year.
In his response, Omokri argued that death cannot be considered miserable because the deceased are no longer aware of what happens to them after death.
He said he had lived a fulfilling life and attributed the timing and circumstances of death to God’s control.
Omokri also stated that he had accepted death and was prepared for it. He said that even if he died immediately, he would remain fulfilled because of his accomplishments, including his mountain-climbing exploits and efforts to raise Nigeria’s flag at various international landmarks.
Quoting a statement attributed to Julius Caesar, he said, “Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.”
Instead of wishing Nonso harm in return, Omokri said he prayed for the X user and others like him to gain wisdom and recognise the value of life.
He advised people to focus on living meaningful lives and preparing for their eventual deaths rather than wishing misfortune on others over political or personal differences.
Omokri ended his message by thanking Nonso and asking God to bless him.
