Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has claimed that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo once attempted to enlist him and the late veteran musician Onyeka Onwenu to engage terrorists operating in the South-East without first consulting them.
Speaking during an interview on Nevon HQ on Saturday, 25 July, 2026, Charly Boy recounted what he described as a surprising development that emerged shortly after Soludo assumed office as governor.
According to him, the governor allegedly intended to use respected public figures to open communication with armed groups behind insecurity in Anambra State, but failed to inform those he named before the plan became public.
“The first time he came, remember what he tried to do with late Onyeka and me. He wanted people that will talk to terrorists. He just came, he did not even talk to us about what he wanted us to do. We just saw it on the pages of newspaper,” Charly Boy said.
The outspoken entertainer suggested that he and the late Onyeka Onwenu only became aware of the reported initiative after reading media reports, leaving them surprised by the development.
His comments shed fresh light on discussions surrounding the Anambra State Government’s early efforts to address rising insecurity in the state, where attacks linked to armed criminal groups have remained a major concern over the years.
Charly Boy did not disclose whether Governor Soludo or his representatives later reached out to explain the proposal or seek their consent after the reports emerged.
