Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has revealed that she believes her marriage should have ended much earlier than it eventually did, saying, in retrospect, that the relationship should have ended on her wedding night.
Ojo made the disclosure during an interview on the Morayo Show on Thursday, August 13, 2026, while responding to a question about whether she had ever regretted her decision to leave the marriage.
The actress said she took her time before making the decision and, looking back, remains grateful that she chose to leave, particularly because of the impact staying in the marriage could have had on her children.
“The marriage should have ended even long, long before it did, it should have ended on my wedding night. Yes. So, I took my time, and if I look back, I’m so glad I didn’t stay — because if I had stayed, probably my kids wouldn’t be where they are today,” Ojo said.
She explained that her decision was not simply about walking away from a difficult marriage, but about creating an environment in which she could raise her children properly while maintaining her own peace and mental wellbeing.
“It wasn’t about me, when I left, it was about my children. It was about me having a sound mind,” she said.
According to Ojo, remaining in the marriage could have changed the trajectory of her children’s lives, making her decision to leave one she now considers necessary despite the circumstances surrounding it.
She also disclosed that she intends to reveal more about her experiences and the events that shaped her life in her forthcoming book and through her next cinema movie, where she plans to delve further into her personal history.
