In a recent video shared on Monday, June 1, 2027, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose discussed the political outlook of the Southwest region ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Fayose analyzed the influence of key political figures in the region and assessed how their popularity could affect voting patterns across the six Southwest states.
During the interview, the discussion centered on whether opposition politicians would be able to challenge the dominance of President Bola Tinubu in his traditional political base. Fayose argued that while some opposition leaders have gained support among voters, their influence varies significantly from one state to another.
Speaking on the issue, Fayose stated, “In the Southwest, there will be a fair contest in Lagos because of Peter Obi, not Makinde.” He explained that Peter Obi’s performance and popularity among certain segments of the electorate have helped make Lagos a more competitive political environment than some other states in the region.
According to Fayose, Lagos possesses unique political dynamics that differ from the rest of the Southwest. He maintained that while opposition candidates may attract attention in Lagos, the ruling party continues to enjoy strong structures and support across much of the region.
The former governor further argued that political influence should be measured by actual electoral outcomes rather than public perception. He noted that the strength of political parties often becomes clearer during elections when voters make their final decisions at the ballot box.
Fayose concluded by saying that the Southwest remains a critical battleground in national politics, but he believes the ruling party still holds significant advantages in most states despite growing competition from opposition candidates…..See More
