Balikis Opeyemi, a mother of two who grew up without knowing her father, has spoken about the emotional pain of losing her mother without learning the identity of her father.
Speaking in an interview with PUNCH on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Opeyemi said her mother, Oluwatoyin Oladele, died in 2023, describing her death as one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Opeyemi said although she was not as close to her mother as she would have wished, her death left a deep void in her life. She said the most painful part was that her mother died without revealing who her father was, leaving her with a question she had carried for many years.
In her words, “My mother, Oluwatoyin Oladele, passed away in 2023. It has been an incredibly difficult phase of my life. Although my mother and I were not as close as I wished, her passing still left a deep emptiness in my heart. What hurts me the most is that she left without telling me who my father was, a question I had carried for many years.”
