Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has rejected claims that veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, is older than President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels TV, Okonkwo described the suggestion as “an assault to my intelligence,” insisting that there is a need for definitive documentation to establish Tinubu’s age.
“It is an assault to my intelligence to say that Charly Boy is older than President Tinubu. It is an assault to say that Tinubu is.
Okonkwo also claimed that before Atiku suggested Tinubu was 90 years old, he had publicly argued that the president was above 90.
He maintained that Tinubu should provide a clear official document stating his date of birth to settle the controversy.
The ADC spokesman also dismissed arguments that questions surrounding Tinubu’s age, birth certificate and personal history were politically motivated attacks by the opposition.
He pointed to what he described as conflicting claims about the president’s state of origin. Okonkwo noted that Tinubu has publicly identified Lagos as his state of origin, while Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke recently said the president is from Iragbiji in Osun State.
According to Okonkwo, producing Tinubu’s birth certificate would help resolve the questions surrounding his age and personal background.
He argued that access to definitive documentation would provide clarity and end the ongoing controversy over the president’s age and origins.
