Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor and lawyer, has stated that some people in the north warned former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007 against choosing Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as his successor because of Yar’Adua’s poor health.
In an interview with Selah Meditate, Okonkwo said the northerners told Obasanjo that Yar’Adua was sick and that he was deliberately supporting him to be president so that he would die in office and power would return to the South.
Okonkwo said Obasanjo later addressed the accusation against him at a campaign ground. He stated that Obasanjo asked the said northerners whether they were God to know that Yar’Adua would die in office
Okonkwo stated that Yar’Adua later died after spending a little over two years in office and power returned to the South
In Obasanjo’s words: “Obasanjo even said it at the campaign ground that they told him he wants to bring a man who would die in office, are they God. And honestly then I sided Obasanjo”
