Nigerian singer and music icon, Aituaje Ebele Iruobe, popularly known as Waje revealed in an interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast that she felt guilty about her mother losing her job due to her pregnancy.
She said, “I kind of felt guilty about that because maybe If I didn’t, she would probably have climbed higher ladders.” But she affirmed that she has healed from it.
Waje also revealed how she was suspended from her church choir because of her pregnancy and how mother could not get a job.
In her words, “The hurt I felt with church wasn’t pregnancy and banning me. I think that is fair because when you have decided whether you are a chorister or you’re a pastor, deacon or you’re a leader in church, the minute you decide to take a special office, you’re a representation of that organization.”
She said her church later apologized to her and even her pastors were still in touch with her.
“The hurt I felt with the church was how they treated my mum. But they’ve apologized to me personally. I felt my mum never really found herself after that because she had put in a lot of time of service in the school.”
“At the time, she was advised to resign because she had a daughter who had a teenage pregnancy. The school of the church frowned at it. I don’t know why that affected her job.”
Waje also narrated how she got pregnant at 17 with her boyfriend then.
She said, “I was 17. At the time, I had a relationship with God, with Christ but I was also young and I enjoyed certain things a little bit too much I guess. It was my boyfriend at the time. I never thought that I would be a mother at that age but it happened, I didn’t tell my mum till about five months.”
She further revealed how her mother eventually knew after family devotion. She stated,
“One day, after morning devotion, my mum was getting ready to work, I called her and sat her down and said mummy I want to tell you something, I’m pregnant, she kept quiet and I said, I don’t want to take the baby out…..See More
