Sunny Neji, veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter, and highlife artist, says he grew up around people who drank and smoked but never followed their habits.
Speaking in an interview with BEHIND THE FAME, Neji explained that even as a child he resisted doing things just because others did them. He said his upbringing taught him to make his own choices and stay focused on his goals.
Neji added that his independence of mind shaped both his personal life and his career, allowing him to pursue music on his own terms without being swayed by the crowd.

“Right from childhood, I’ve had dreams; I wasn’t the kind of person that would follow the crowd, you know, doing things because everybody else is doing it. I wasn’t easily influenced. For instance, I grew up with people who were drinking to stupor, but I didn’t drink. I hung around people who were smoking, but I didn’t smoke.
