IK Osakioduwa says the first job that offered him multiple millions of naira was an alcohol campaign, but he turned it down because he believed God wanted him to take a different path. He admitted the decision was difficult as a young entertainer facing his first truly big cheque.
He explained that he and his team decided early not to work with tobacco brands and to largely avoid alcohol endorsements. He emphasised that he is not condemning colleagues who do such work and that it is not a sin to take alcohol jobs, but he believes the restriction was personal.
IK recalled wrestling with the choice and asking God whether anyone else would ever pay him that kind of money. He said learning to let money “come and go” without compromising his convictions has protected his career in the long run.
IK Osakioduwa said: “The first big money I was ever going to make, the first job that was ever going to pay me multiple millions, was an alcohol job. I remember sitting there thinking, ‘God, this thing we talked about that time, I’m not sure. This big money – do you have another person that’s going to pay it to me?’ Learning to just trust that that decision is okay was hard. Why is it not okay for me to do that but He doesn’t mind when another person is doing it? That doesn’t matter. It’s the road He’s called you to walk. I’ve learned to see money come and money go and not hold on to it, not do things for money. That is why I think my life has been on a straight path all this time. There are jobs that get offered to you and He’s like, ‘Don’t touch that one.’ There’s nothing wrong with the job per se, but God just doesn’t want you to have that influence. Eventually you find out maybe if you had taken that job, you wouldn’t have gotten a bigger job.”…….See More
