“They Stormed Houses And Took Them Away” -Residents Describe Katsina Abduction Horror

According to a report by The Guardian on Saturday, May 02, 2026, Suspected armed assailants have abducted more than a dozen women and girls, including nursing mothers, in Sabon Layi community of Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The attack occurred on Friday night, April 30, 2026, at about 9:45 p.m., according to local sources.

Community accounts indicate that at least 15 persons were taken during the raid, with some infants reportedly carried away alongside their mothers.

It was gathered that the attackers stormed the area and moved directly to households belonging to a resident identified as Mallam Aliyu and his younger brother, where they rounded up victims before fleeing into a nearby forest.

A resident said the operation was carried out quickly, leaving little time for any coordinated response.

According to the source, local vigilante efforts were made to track and rescue the victims, but the attempts were unsuccessful as the attackers had already escaped into the surrounding forest.

Residents of the community have expressed concern over the recurring attacks, calling on security agencies and government authorities to take urgent steps to address the worsening situation and improve protection for rural settlements.

The incident comes despite ongoing peace arrangements between some communities and armed groups in parts of Katsina State, agreements which had been supported by traditional leaders and state authorities.

However, reports indicate that attacks, kidnappings, and livestock theft continue in several areas, despite the peace initiatives.

As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or confirmed details of the abduction.
