“If I Call Two Obidients And Place Them On Speaker, They Will Tell You Their Truths,” -James Kitiya

According to a report by Vanguard News published on Saturday, May 2, 2026, James Kitiya, a former supporter of Peter Obi, has expressed skepticism about the former Anambra State governor’s chances in the 2027 general election, arguing that he should no longer be regarded as a strong contender.

Kitiya stated that the political momentum that powered Obi’s 2023 presidential bid has significantly declined, noting that the enthusiasm and nationwide appeal once associated with his movement have weakened over time. According to him, the influence of the Obidient movement has diminished to a point where it may no longer pose a serious challenge in future elections.

He also pointed to structural weaknesses within Obi’s support base, particularly among supporters in the diaspora. Kitiya argued that many of them lack voter cards and therefore cannot directly participate in elections or effectively mobilise grassroots support within Nigeria.

In addition, he suggested that the unity and confidence that once defined the movement have eroded, with internal doubts emerging among supporters. He implied that while many loyalists continue to show public backing, there may be private concerns about the movement’s current strength. “If I call two Obidients and place them on speaker, they will tell you their truths,” he said.

Kitiya further revealed that he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2026 while in Adamawa State. He attributed his decision to what he described as visible achievements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in infrastructure development.

While acknowledging ongoing economic challenges faced by Nigerians, he urged the government to intensify efforts to ease financial hardship. Despite maintaining personal respect for Obi, whom he described as a “good man,” Kitiya concluded that he does not see a viable political path for him ahead of the 2027 elections…...See More
