They Don’t Even Believe In The Democracy, So Don’t Pay Attention To Them Because I Don’t -Tinubu

Based on a report from Vanguard dated Wednesday, April 22, 2026, President Bola Tinubu has expressed his strong belief that Nigeria’s democratic governance will persist, despite the numerous political and economic difficulties the nation faces.

He asserted that the democratic framework remains resilient and will keep functioning even when faced with various pressures.

The president also criticized opposition members, claiming that although they publicly portray themselves as champions of democracy, some of their behaviors contradict the values they profess.

He insisted that trust in democracy springs from continual institutional work and national strength.

These remarks were made during a meeting at the State House, where he welcomed a group from Enugu State.

The group was headed by Governor Peter Mbah and comprised key state officials who traveled to Abuja to discuss governance priorities, development issues, and cooperation between federal and state bodies. He mentioned that regular consultations between both levels of government are ongoing.

The president also spoke against previous policy choices in the power sector, especially regarding the privatization process, which he contended has failed to bring about the expected enhancements in electricity generation and distribution.

He remarked that the existing system left to the current government was seriously weakened, leading to widespread challenges in power supply that continue to impact homes, businesses, and industries nationwide.

He highlighted that tackling these deficiencies remains a key aspect of ongoing reform efforts in the sector.

He connected the current electricity dilemma to the results of past reforms and policy decisions, pointing out that poor infrastructure and inefficiencies have caused the country to face ongoing energy shortages.

He emphasized that the effects of those earlier choices are still evident, as the nation struggles to meet the increasing demand for a reliable electricity supply across various sectors.

He noted that there is a need for ongoing improvements in energy infrastructure throughout the country.

He also directed his criticism at politicians in the opposition, accusing them of not aligning their public remarks with their true actions within the political arena.

He claimed that while they often present themselves as supporters of democratic governance, their actions contradict these stated principles, particularly concerning their participation in national political discussions. He reiterated that political debates should reflect democratic accountability.

He suggested that such critiques from political rivals should be ignored, stating that he personally chooses to overlook them to focus on governance and administrative duties, and he encouraged attention to governance matters.

He expressed, “These leaders privatised electricity, and it’s not functioning. They left us in darkness, and we’re working to overcome this.

“But they don’t truly believe in the democracy they talk about. Ignore them, as I do.”…..See More
