When It Comes To Tracking Critics, They Abduct, Take Them To Prison, But Bandits Display Monies -Eze

Public health physician and policy advocate, Dr. Laz Eze, has raised concerns over what he describes as inconsistent enforcement of law enforcement priorities in Nigeria, particularly regarding the treatment of social media critics and perceived government opponents.

The remarks were made during an interview on Volume Pod, on Friday, 5 June, 2026, a political and public affairs podcast that regularly hosts discussions on governance, accountability, and civil liberties in Nigeria.

During the conversation, Dr. Eze reflected on growing public frustration over perceived selective justice and the widening gap between state response to online expression and visible acts of lawlessness.

He emphasized the need for equal application of the law regardless of political or social status. He further urged authorities to prioritize fairness, transparency, and accountability in enforcement actions, warning that selective justice could erode democratic norms and encourage cynicism among citizens who already feel alienated from governance processes.

Providing a specific illustration of his concerns, Dr. Eze questioned what he sees as disproportionate focus on critics of government while others who allegedly flaunt ill-gotten wealth or engage in disruptive behaviour appear unchecked.

He stated: “Why is it that when it comes to tracking down critics of government or people for posting things on social media, wherever they are, they go abduct them and take them to prison. But people who are disturbing the peace of this country will make videos, display monies, makes claims.” He added that such patterns, if left unaddressed, risk undermining public trust in institutions and deepening social tensions.
