The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stood firm in his remarks regarding the recent kidnapping of teachers and students in Oyo State, asserting that he has no plans to retract or alter his stance.
In a video released by Channels TV, Wike responded to criticism concerning his comments to protesting teachers about the abduction incident while inspecting projects to commemorate the third anniversary of the Bola Tinubu administration.
As stated by the minister, he expressed his worry that matters of insecurity ought not to be transformed into political debates. He asserted that his remarks were not intended to undermine the gravity of the security challenges confronting the nation.
Wike expressed that there is widespread concern regarding insecurity and recognised that these incidents are indeed unfortunate. He contended that certain individuals tend to voice their concerns only after an incident has taken place, rather than addressing potential warning signs beforehand.
The minister emphasised that he does not make statements merely for the sake of public approval and asserted that he consistently expresses what he believes to be right.
He emphasised that he remains steadfast in his statements and will not withdraw them in light of the criticism. Wike stated that anyone who is unhappy with his stance is welcome to pursue any actions they deem fitting.
In his own words, “I will not retract or withdraw anything; I stand by what I said. If anyone is unhappy, they can take whatever action they choose.
