A Nigerian woman identified as Gift has shared a heartbreaking account of the abuse she allegedly suffered during her marriage, revealing how her husband subjected her to years of physical, emotional, and financial hardship.
She spoke during a recent episode of the Brekete Family program, a popular human rights radio and television show in Abuja hosted by the Ordinary President.
According to her, she was taken to Abuja under the promise of marriage but later found herself trapped in a relationship marked by constant suffering and mistreatment.
She explained that one of the most painful aspects of the marriage was the way her husband allegedly controlled her finances despite her hard work. She earned a living by selling pepper soup, but her husband would often demand the money she made from her business.
She said: “My husband beats me if I refuse him sex and uses my money to sleep with other women.” According to her, whenever she resisted his demands or refused to hand over her earnings, he would physically assault her.
She further alleged that when he succeeded in taking her money, he would spend it on other women, leaving her without the capital needed to continue her business.
Gift explained that this created a painful cycle where she would be forced to stop trading for days until she could somehow gather enough money to start again from scratch.
She also revealed that the abuse extended beyond financial exploitation, describing years of hardship, isolation, and separation from her children.
Her story was shared as part of a broader effort to seek justice and support after enduring what she described as a prolonged period of suffering and abuse……See More
