According to a recent video by Church Gist, Popular preacher Pastor Isaac Oyedepo has disclosed why he instructed his wife never to address him as “Pastor,” warning against the subtle worship of titles. Speaking during a recent service, he cautioned that many people unknowingly worship created things, including titles, instead of the Creator.
He explained that insisting on titles like “Dr.” or “Pastor” in personal settings reflects pride and a misplaced sense of identity. “I remember telling my wife to never call me pastor. Call me by my name,” he said, adding that even children calling their father “pastor” at home can fuel unhealthy self-exaltation.
Oyedepo stressed that a title does not define one’s worth before God, comparing it to withdrawing money by your deposit, not your title. He urged believers to crush the desire to be known by human accolades, noting that those who cling tightly to titles often lack genuine self-image. His message: worship belongs to God alone, not to positions or names.
