Maria Adebusola, the widow of late Nigerian boxer Segun Olanrewaju, popularly known as Success, has recounted a distressing ordeal at her husband’s burial, where she faced rejection and humiliation from his family.
Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspapers, Adebusola described the painful events surrounding the burial proceedings in Ghana following Olanrewaju’s tragic death.
She explained that after the body was prepared around 5:00, the family proceeded with burial arrangements, leaving her and their children behind.
When her husband’s best friend arranged transportation for her to join, family members blocked her from entering the vehicle, insisting she was merely a baby mama and not a legitimate wife.
They escalated the insult by labeling her first child a bastard, questioning the child’s paternity outright.
Adebusola recounted standing firm against their demands, refusing to allow them to take her children to perform the final rites in her place.
She emphasized that since she was denied the chance to participate in the mourning rituals and pay her last respects, no one would separate her from her children.
Ultimately, she left the scene, while her husband’s friend remained to witness the burial before returning to her.
Her words: “So when it was 5:00, they packed the body. They proceeded to go and bury him. So I called my husband’s family that they’ve left only me and my children. Yeah. My husband’s best friend now said I should enter the car. So they took me there, and that was when another saga started. I wanted to enter. They said I must not enter. I’m just a baby mama. I’m not a wife. They even told me that my first child is a bastard. They said it to me that my first child is a bastard.
