According to a report by Arise News on, Nigerian entertainer and self-styled “Area Fada,” Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has opened up about the harsh disciplinary methods his father once used on him as a child.
He described years of physical punishment that left him wondering what kind of misbehaviour could ever justify such treatment.
Reflecting on his childhood, Charly Boy recalled being subjected to regular beatings, ranging from cane lashes to outright punches, even at the tender age of ten or twelve, treatment he admitted would likely warrant legal action if it happened under today’s standards.
Despite the difficult relationship shaped by years of strict discipline, the entertainer shared an emotional turning point that occurred during a hospital visit in Gbagada, where his father finally expressed a sentiment he had never voiced before.
He said: “I just thought, how rascally or how naughty a child could be to deserve the kind of punishment my father melted out to me.’
‘He whip me with cane, when that wasn’t working he box me. I was 10, 12 at that moment. If it was now I would have sue him.’
‘My father visited me when I was in Gbagada at a time he said okay let me tell you something that I have never told you before, he said, I am really proud of you, I almost fainted.’
‘It was like are my really hearing this? So I had to call my mum immediately to say, guess what your husband just told me? When I told her, she said yes, his always proud of you. I said what a way for showing it.”
