Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, alleged that Peter Obi promoted a misleading public image, claiming he personally saw the former Anambra governor wearing Louis Vuitton despite narratives portraying him as unusually modest in lifestyle.
According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Echoo Room, while discussing perceptions surrounding Peter Obi, Bwala recounted an encounter he said occurred at Heathrow Airport during their separate travel engagements together.
Bwala argued that some political narratives resonate because many Nigerians easily accept carefully crafted public images, insisting that appearances and personal branding often influence public opinion more strongly than independently verified facts or broader records of political performance.
During the interview, he stated, “I saw Peter Obi in Louis Vuitton at Heathrow Airport while he was on his way to Pastor Poju Oyemade, yet he was putting out a narrative that he wears Marks & Spencer and owns only one shoe.”
He maintained that the account reflected his personal experience, arguing it contradicted what he described as a carefully cultivated public perception, while suggesting such narratives gain widespread acceptance because they appeal to emotions and existing political loyalties across Nigeria.
Bwala further claimed that political communication frequently relies on perception, adding that public figures sometimes benefit when carefully presented personal stories reinforce existing beliefs among supporters, regardless of whether alternative accounts or differing experiences are subsequently presented publicly.
