Kogi: We Heard Gunshots Around 3:00 P.m And Rushed But They Were Gone, We Started Tracing Them -Resident Of Olowa Community

Danladi Isah, a resident of Olowa community in Kogi State, has recounted the moment bandits invaded Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, abducting the school principal, students and a National Examinations Council (NECO) supervisor before fleeing the area.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Thursday, 16 July, 2026, Isah described the confusion that gripped the community after residents heard gunfire and rushed towards the school in an attempt to respond to the attack. He said the kidnappers had already escaped before locals could reach the scene.

Recounting the incident, Isah said, “Between the hour of 2 to 3pm. We heard gunshots in the community. We now rushed to the scene. Before we could get to that place, they had gone. And we started tracing their footprint but we could not see them again.”

According to him, residents immediately mobilised after the sound of gunshots echoed across the community. However, despite their efforts to pursue the attackers, the bandits had disappeared into the surrounding terrain before anyone could intercept them. He explained that community members followed the footprints left behind by the kidnappers in the hope of locating the victims, but the trail was eventually lost.
