We Were 10 Aspirants, And The Remaining 9 Have All Accepted The Decision Reached By The Party -Ibrahim Lamido

According to a report by The Sun on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has stated that his decision not to pursue another term in the National Assembly was largely influenced by the limited authority available to senators in tackling the growing insecurity within his constituency.

Lamido explained that the position of a senator does not provide the executive powers needed to adequately respond to the persistent security threats confronting communities in Sokoto East.

He noted that despite efforts made through legislative responsibilities, the office remains restricted in handling urgent security matters directly.

The lawmaker said his interest in contesting for the governorship position was driven by his determination to address insecurity more effectively across the state.

According to him, many residents and supporters had urged him to seek executive office because they believed such a position carried the necessary powers to confront the challenges affecting the people.

He added that his governorship ambition was based on the need to provide stronger leadership in dealing with attacks and instability in affected communities.

Lamido maintained that executive authority would have offered him a wider opportunity to implement measures aimed at restoring peace and improving security across the region.

However, the senator was unsuccessful in his attempt to secure the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress after the party adopted a consensus arrangement that produced former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan’iya, as its candidate.

Despite the outcome of the selection process, Lamido reaffirmed his commitment to the party and assured members that he would continue to work for the success of the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also disclosed that all aspirants who participated in the governorship race had agreed to support the consensus decision in order to maintain unity within the party.

He said, “We were ten aspirants, and the remaining nine have all accepted the decision reached by the party.”……..See More
