According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, a former chairman of Kano Municipal Council, Faizu Alfindiki, has stated that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso lacks the political influence required to determine the outcome of presidential elections in Kano State.
Alfindiki made the remarks on Tuesday in Kano during a meeting with APC social media influencers.
During the session, he rejected suggestions that Kwankwaso could secure a significant number of votes capable of shaping the 2027 presidential election.
He maintained that ongoing discussions about a possible political partnership involving Kwankwaso and Peter Obi should not create concern within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to him, the party remains confident of its political standing in Kano and other northern states.
Alfindiki argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari consistently recorded electoral victories in Kano because of his personal popularity among voters, regardless of whether Kwankwaso or his associates were in control of the state government at the time.
He added that the same political trend continued during later elections, stressing that Buhari maintained strong support across Kano State irrespective of the party structure controlling the state administration.
The APC chieftain also referred to the 2019 general elections, where he said Buhari secured more than 1.4 million votes in Kano State, while several candidates believed to have been supported by Kwankwaso were defeated in important legislative contests.
He further mentioned the 2023 presidential election, saying the results from Kano did not reflect claims that Kwankwaso possessed overwhelming political dominance in the state.
Alfindiki accused the former governor of overstating his previous political influence, especially regarding claims that he delivered millions of votes to Buhari during the 2015 elections.
He insisted that the APC remains politically strong in Kano and across Northern Nigeria, adding that the party is not worried about what he described as alliances driven by media narratives.
“As a presidential candidate, he scored below one million votes in his own state. That clearly shows his political reach is limited,” he said…….See More
