Non-existing Platforms Seem To Be Overrating Obi, Kwankwaso’s Popularity They Push Their Luck Far -Shehu Mahdi

‎According to a report by Daily Post, on Tuesday May 5, 2026, public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has raised concerns over the recent political moves by Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, warning that their latest alliance may not deliver the expected results ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎Shehu criticized the frequent movement of the two opposition figures across different political platforms, he suggested that such actions could create the impression that they are overestimating their political strength and public support.

‎According to him, the political environment that shaped the 2023 general elections has changed significantly, he explained that voter behaviour, alliances, and sentiments are no longer the same, making it risky for any politician to rely on past performance as a measure of future success.

‎Shehu argued that the current realignments involving Obi and Kwankwaso appear to be more about gaining political relevance and influence rather than building a strong and united opposition, in his view, the strategy may be aimed at attracting other political blocs for negotiations instead of presenting a clear and cohesive alternative to the ruling government.

‎He warned that this approach could backfire, he noted that other opposition groups might decide to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC), which could weaken the position of Obi and Kwankwaso.

‎He cautioned that such a scenario could reduce their political influence if they fail to secure broader support and stressed that division among opposition leaders would only benefit the ruling party and reduce the chances of defeating it in the next election.
