A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has shared details about his early life and family background during an exclusive interview on the Femi Rogers Podcast aired on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Speaking during the programme, Chief George began by recounting his place of birth and age, stating, “I was born in Lagos, Lagos Island. I was born 80 years ago. I’ll be 81 this year.” He went on to reflect on his upbringing, particularly highlighting the influence of his father, whom he described as a war veteran. According to him, “But as a young man, my father, first of all, fought in the Second World War. He was a veteran. He was, yes, in Boman. When he came back, he then joined the Federal Civil Service and he worked under the Ministry of Defense.”
Chief George also spoke extensively about his family lineage, tracing it back to his great-grandfather. He disclosed that his great-grandfather was a clergyman involved in missionary work. “My grandparents, my great-grandfather was a reverend gentleman and he joined the missionaries, the Methodist missionaries, you know, towards the north, trying to convert a lot of people to Christianity,” he said.
Providing further details, he noted that his great-grandfather served in northern Nigeria. “And he served in Nupe, present-day Niger State. That was where he met his wife, who was a Nupe woman,” he added. Chief George explained that following their time in the north, his great-grandfather and his wife relocated to Lagos, where they started a family. “And they both came back to Lagos, gave back to my grandfather and two daughters,” he said.
The PDP chieftain further recalled his brief interaction with his grandfather, noting that he passed away when he was still young. “I met my grandfather because he died in 1946. I was still pretty young,” he stated.
Reflecting on his heritage, Chief George reiterated the religious background of his forebears, saying, “But his father was a reverend gentleman, Methodist reverend.” He added that this lineage may have influenced his family name, stating, “And I believe that is where I probably got the name George, you know, those who he was in those days.”……..See More
