According to a report by The Sun on Friday, May 15, 2026, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State on Thursday moved to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections as leaders, aspirants and executives gathered in Umuahia for a major stakeholders’ meeting focused on reconciliation, internal cooperation and transparent primary elections.
The meeting, which took place at the new APC State Secretariat located on Finbarrs Road in Umuahia, attracted several prominent figures within the party.
Among those present were former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Abia APC Chairman, Chukwuma Chijoke.
Also in attendance were governorship aspirants including Henry Ikoh, Mascot Uzor Kalu and Eric Opah, as well as local government party chairmen, aspirants for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, and other party stakeholders from across the state.
The gathering followed increasing demands within the party for reconciliation among members, greater internal stability and coordinated mobilisation efforts aimed at improving the APC’s performance in Abia State during future elections.
Party leaders at the meeting stressed the importance of working together to strengthen the party’s structure and position it for electoral success in 2027, including support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during the meeting, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu repeatedly called on party members to embrace unity, mutual understanding and cooperation.
He urged stakeholders to avoid internal disputes and divisions that could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
According to him, President Tinubu had directed him to help reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and ensure that the APC achieved stronger electoral outcomes in Abia State.
Kalu also referred to the events surrounding the 2023 elections, stating that disagreements within the party over the choice of candidates contributed to setbacks experienced by the APC during the polls.
He maintained that the party could only make meaningful progress if members remained united and allowed fairness and transparency to guide the selection of candidates for future elections.
