Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized the 2023 Nigerian general elections, calling them a disgrace due to allegations of fraud and widespread irregularities.
In a series of posts on his X page on Saturday, the former Governor of Anambra State condemned the inefficiencies and technical issues that plagued the election, despite the considerable funds allocated for its execution.
Obi compared Nigeria’s electoral process with the recent South African elections, which he commended for their transparency and efficiency.
According to The Punch, he highlighted the higher voter turnout in South Africa, the prompt opening of polling stations, and the inclusion of diaspora voting. Obi stressed that these elements showcased the strength and transparency of South Africa’s electoral system.
Obi reiterated that the recent South African election results are a prime example of a transparent and efficient democratic electoral process.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate criticized the Nigerian elections for having less than 30% voter turnout, more than 60% of polling stations starting late, and the exclusion of diaspora voting.
He also lamented the numerous allegations of fraud and irregularities, despite the nearly billion-dollar expenditure on the election, which included a direct allocation of 313 billion Naira and support from donor agencies.……..See More
