Peter Obi has stated that he shut down the Office of the First Lady when he was governor of Anambra State because he believed it had no constitutional role and would waste public funds
In a video shared by Advocacy For Good Governance, Obi said he told his wife Margaret that he knew she was not happy with the decision. He said he explained to her that she was not elected by the people and therefore should not occupy an office funded with public money
In Obi’s words: “I always tell my wife whenever she said people are not happy, I say ‘You are not happy equally because I shut down office of first lady.’ I said, ‘It should not exist because nobody voted for you, you are just my wife and I love you. So you stay at home with me, it is me who they voted for to deal with this matter'”
