Lagos: The Power Of Incumbency Will Come To Play And Obi Will Not Get What He Had The Other Time -Awe

Archbishop Funso Awe, a retired cleric and public commentator, has said that Peter Obi may find it difficult to replicate his previous electoral performance in Lagos and other parts of the country as political dynamics continue to evolve ahead of future elections.

In an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT on Sunday, May 24, 2026, he stated that the influence of incumbency in Lagos State would significantly affect electoral outcomes, and that Obi is unlikely to secure the same level of support he previously enjoyed in the state.

He further explained that voter sentiment in Nigeria often changes as elections approach, with some opposition supporters losing enthusiasm over time. According to him, this trend could weaken Obi’s support base across several regions.

Awe also noted that a decline in Obi’s support in the South-East, South-South, and South-West could have a ripple effect on his broader national appeal, including in the Middle Belt and Northern regions.
