Former Chief Whip of the Senate and representative for Osun Central, Professor Olusola Adeyeye, has revealed that he has spent the past two years back in university abroad pursuing a degree in mathematics, taking a step back from active political life to fulfill a lifelong passion.
Speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, on Sunday September 27, 2026, the veteran politician and academic explained that his decision to step away from the political spotlight was driven by a desire to prioritize family and explore an enduring academic interest that dates back to his high school days at Ilesa Grammar School.
Reflecting on his career transition and choice of study, Prof. Adeyeye shared:
“The last time I was there that I chose to be out of the day-to-day hustles and bustles of politicking because I thought I’d done my best and I also thought it was time to give my grandchildren some time.”
“I also thought it was time for me to explore an enduring interest of my life. Back at Ilesa Grammar School, my favorite subject were mathematics and physics. And if I had a wealthy father with fewer children, I would have probably become a physicist or mathematician.”
He added; “So in the last 2 years, I’ve been back in school studying to get a degree in mathematics and enjoying myself doing so. The oldest person in any class I found myself and older than any of my teachers but by the grace of God doing quite well.”
