Mercy Eke has spoken out against men who expect women to handle financial and leadership responsibilities in relationships, only to later label them as disrespectful or overly dominant. During an appearance on Toke Moments, she pointed out that some men act like “princesses,” wanting to be pursued and cared for, yet grow resentful when women naturally step into more assertive roles forced upon them by circumstance.
She also stated she would not enter a relationship with a man who earns less than she does, citing past experiences where she financially supported partners—something she no longer wishes to repeat.
In her own words: “They want to be the man and also the woman. Honestly, they’re acting like princesses now. Men want to be chased. You’re not doing what you’re expected to do. You don’t want to be the man—you want to be the woman.”
She continued, “If you’re going to take on the woman’s role, then I’ll take the man’s. That’s when you’ll see me become controlling. When we go out, I’ll be the one paying because that’s what you’re making me do. You want me to play the man’s part? Fine, I will. But then you complain that I’m too bossy or that I don’t respect you.”
