Jamiu Sanni, a Nigerian who returned from South Africa, has spoken out about his experiences with xenophobic tensions while abroad, according to a report by Vanguard TV.
He described how he was compelled to leave the nation in quest of tranquillity after a promising business endeavour.
After moving to South Africa, Sanni developed a modest life selling chicken, he explained on a Vanguard TV show.
He persisted for around eight months before he had second thoughts about staying due to the increasing animosity he encountered from the locals.
When locals in his neighbourhood started attacking immigrants who lived there, he remembered how tensions rose.
According to Sanni, they went to his landlord and demanded to know why he was letting people from outside South Africa live on his home.
After eight months, he informed them he had to leave for peace of mind, explaining that he had created the career for himself by selling chicken. After eight months, the residents begin to have problems with the house owner, who claims that certain individuals are foreigners. According to the landlord, he has no issues with the tenant and pays him on time. They eventually became serious about it and threatened to burn down his house if he didn’t stop them. I told them I would have to go so I could have peace when I saw how seriously they were handling the situation. Around December of that year, 2014 came to a close.
