Benga Kayode has opened up about his early life, confirming that he was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, despite his parents living abroad at the time. Speaking on CreativiTea with Lynda, he explained how his father’s strong conviction about Nigerian pride influenced this significant life decision. At a time when many wealthy Nigerians were choosing to have their children born in foreign countries, Kayode’s father was determined that his son would be born on Nigerian soil.
The journey his mother took to ensure his birth in Nigeria was remarkable. When she was seven months pregnant while living in London, his mother made the difficult decision to travel back to Nigeria specifically to give birth to him in Ibadan. She stayed with a trusted aunt and delivered Kayode in his homeland before returning to London just two months later, leaving young Benga in the care of his aunt for the first three years of his life until his family permanently relocated to Lagos.
In Benga Kayode’s words: “I was born in Ibadan. So my parents used to live in Lagos actually then they used to live in London. So my dad was a big proponent of Nigeria first proudly Nigeria. So I think when my mom was about 7 months pregnant she came to Nigeria just to give birth to me. I haven’t forgiven her. Her closest aunt who she trusted used to live in. So she came back to Nigeria to Ibadan just basically to give birth to me. Then two months later she was out of the country again. She was like bye stay with your auntie and she left. So I was in Ibadan for the first three years of my life before now moving to Lagos with my parents. Then I pretty much grew up my all of my life in Lagos…..See More
