According to a recent video by FeelRightNews TV, a prominent community leader, Comrade Agbaakin Muyideen Bukola Akanbi, has urged the federal and state governments to create more employment opportunities for Nigerian youth, warning that unemployment is pushing graduates into criminal activities.
Speaking in Ibadan, Agbaakin expressed concern that a Nigerian graduate who has completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and is struggling with a Point of Sale (POS) business could easily be enticed with money to join kidnapping syndicates. He noted that financial desperation makes young people vulnerable to criminal recruitment.
“We thank God that the case of the Oriire students isn’t like that of the Chibok girls that didn’t come back,” Agbaakin stated, referring to the recent abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The community leader called on the government to urgently address the unemployment crisis, stressing that idle graduates with no means of livelihood are at high risk of being drawn into banditry and kidnapping.
He emphasized that proactive measures, including skills acquisition programmes and job creation initiatives, would serve as a more effective solution than reactive security interventions.
Agbaakin concluded by appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to support government efforts in tackling youth unemployment and insecurity.
