Tokunbo Malvins is a comedian, producer and scriptwriter. He is a veteran in the movie industry. In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, he revealed how he struggled, lobbied and begged producers for roles. For months, he would not have anywhere to go; no features, no money.
In his words, “There was a time I had no place to go. I mean no jobs for 6 months, 4 months. I was lobbying with producers, begging they should feature me in their movies.
Malvins narrated the power of the Internet; how it really helped him in times of his struggles, trying to make ends meet. Social media transformed his life. He started earning well, he was getting roles and charging high for them. He was literally fed up with his life until he started making videos, bloggers were reposting it and his colleagues were commending him for it. Moments like that made him realise how his effort is well appreciated and the impact of his work.
He said, “Thank God for my gift which is comedy. I am a very good standup comedian. I can do it for 24 hours non stop. I started recording myself in my car to post online. I can say it is through this act, God answered my prayers.
“If people already accept you online, you will become more known in your craft. Bloggers started reposting my videos as then I didn’t know the gravity of what I was doing until my colleagues started hailing me, narrating how they view my posts all the time.
“This helped me to charge very well for my craft. I could make between 3 to 5 million naira in a month. At this juncture, I begin to feel and think this is my turning point.
