According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to state governors against meddling in the politics of Rivers State.
He cautioned that any attempt by governors to interfere in the state’s political affairs would amount to inviting unnecessary trouble.
Wike gave the warning on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, where he addressed members of the rainbow coalition made up of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
His comments came amid growing political tension and renewed discussions around influence and control in Rivers politics.
The FCT minister made it clear that Rivers State should not be treated as a place for political interference by leaders from outside the state.
He stressed that those who believe they can enter the state and influence events for their own advantage should reconsider their actions, warning that such moves could trigger serious political consequences.
According to him, the use of state resources or federal support to exert political pressure on Rivers State would not be tolerated.
He said anyone who thinks they can leverage the money made available by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to certain states for political purposes should be careful about the response such actions may provoke.
Wike’s remarks were directed at governors whom he accused of paying attention to Rivers State politics without respecting the interests and sensitivities of the state.
He maintained that political actors should avoid actions that could escalate tensions or create avoidable conflict in the state’s internal political space.
The former Rivers State governor also used the occasion to speak to supporters and members of the coalition about the need to remain alert and united.
His statement reflected the ongoing political developments in the state, where alliances and party interests continue to shape the tone of public discourse and leadership struggles.
