According to a report by Leadership News, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed strong optimism that Peter Obi will clinch victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the remark on Friday during the official affirmation of consensus aspirants of the party held in Kano State, an event that brought together key stakeholders and party faithful from across various constituencies.
He described the gathering as a significant milestone for the party, stressing that the emergence of consensus candidates without internal conflict was a clear indication of growing unity and coordination within the political structure in Kano.
According to him, the process reflected maturity among party members, as several constituencies that initially recorded multiple aspirants some with more than ten contenders were eventually able to arrive at a collective agreement through dialogue, consultation, and internal reconciliation.
He praised party leaders, elders, and grassroots supporters for their commitment to ensuring that the selection process was peaceful, orderly, and widely acceptable across the state.
Kwankwaso further noted that the smooth conduct of the affirmation exercise demonstrated the strength of the movement and the level of cooperation that exists among its various support groups, including the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the CRC, Lafiya Jari groups, and members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, all of whom he credited for their active participation and support throughout the process.
He emphasized that such collaboration was essential for building a stable political platform capable of competing effectively at the national level.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the party’s primaries committee, led by Mainasara Abubakar Sani, who commended members for their discipline and peaceful conduct during the exercise.
Sani noted that reports from across the constituencies confirmed that the process was carried out successfully without violence or major disagreements, attributing the outcome to the cooperation of party members in Kano.
At the conclusion of the event, several candidates were formally affirmed for different political positions.
Among them was former Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who was endorsed as the party’s governorship candidate.
Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna emerged as the senatorial candidate for Kano Central, while other aspirants were confirmed for seats in the House of Representatives, the State House of Assembly, and additional senatorial districts across the state.
After his affirmation, Gwarzo expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence and pledged to run an inclusive and open-door administration if elected governor in the 2027 elections.
He also encouraged young supporters of the movement to remain committed and continue mobilizing in support of the party’s objectives ahead of the general elections.
Kwankwaso reiterated his confidence in the political direction of the movement and made a firm declaration about the party’s broader electoral ambition.
“I’m talking about Peter Obi, he will be flying our flag, and by the grace of God, on May 29, exactly one year from now, he will have been sworn in as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said…..See More
