Our Own Son, Buhari, For 8 Years He Was In The Saddle Couldn’t Do Anything Tangible In North -Shettima

According to a report by The Sun on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiatives (NSCI), Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has only spent about three years in office and should not be expected to immediately resolve long-standing structural challenges within the country.

He noted that it is unrealistic to expect a rapid transformation of a system that, according to him, had been badly damaged over an eight-year period before the current administration.

Shettima made these remarks while addressing concerns surrounding governance performance and regional expectations.

He explained that leadership transitions often come with inherited challenges that require gradual and steady efforts rather than quick fixes.

According to him, the current administration is still in the process of addressing deep-rooted issues that have affected various sectors of national development.

He further emphasized that the difficulties being experienced were not newly created but were accumulated over time, making them more complex to resolve.

He maintained that rebuilding such a system requires patience, consistent policy direction, and time for reforms to produce visible outcomes across different regions of the country.

When questioned about claims from the northern region that it supported President Tinubu’s election with a significant number of votes, alongside accusations that the administration has not been equitable in its treatment of the region, Shettima responded by stressing the importance of perspective and historical context in evaluating performance and governance outcomes.

He explained that governance should be viewed as a gradual process rather than an immediate achievement, adding that expectations must be balanced with the realities of inherited challenges.

He also pointed out that different administrations face varying levels of structural and regional difficulties, which take time to address effectively.

Shettima reiterated that development cannot be achieved overnight and that progress often comes through sustained effort and continuity of reforms.

He maintained that early stages of any administration are typically focused on laying foundations that later translate into tangible results, especially in regions that have long-standing developmental concerns.

He said, “It is a process. Rome was not built in a day. Our own son, Buhari, for eight years he was in the saddle couldn’t do anything tangible in the region, but Tinubu has shown us the way…..See More
