Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has reacted to reports linking former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Shehu described the reported political move as a sign of desperation and questioned Pantami’s past role in the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
According to Shehu, Pantami was among the top APC figures who regularly blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP for many of Nigeria’s problems during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also alleged that Pantami had a strong influence during the Buhari administration and supported policies that critics believed went against the Nigerian Communications Act.
Shehu argued that if Pantami is now moving closer to the PDP, he should publicly apologise to Jonathan for his past criticisms and political attacks.
The commentator further criticised politicians who frequently change political sides for personal interests, saying such actions often reflect the struggle for power and influence.
He warned both the APC and PDP to be careful about accepting prominent defectors without properly examining their past actions and political records.
Shehu concluded by urging politicians and public figures to reflect on their ambitions and motivations before making major political decisions.
