According to a report by Daily Post, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, public commentator Mahdi Shehu has reacted sharply to recent reports suggesting that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, is being linked with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the development as a reflection of what he called political desperation at a critical moment in the country’s political climate.
Shehu, in a post shared on his verified X handle, expressed surprise at the alleged political realignment, questioning Pantami’s past and present political affiliations, especially his previous association with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He suggested that the reported move raises deeper moral and political concerns, particularly given Pantami’s role within the APC-led federal government under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He further remarked that the situation illustrates what he described as “desperate measures in desperate moments,” adding that the unfolding political dynamics were both intriguing and revealing.
“Wonders shall never end. Desperate measures in desperate moments. Interesting times ahead,” a statement he used to underscore his skepticism about the reported shift.
The commentator also revisited Pantami’s political background, alleging that the former minister was once a prominent supporter of the APC and played an influential role during the Buhari administration.
He claimed that during that period, Pantami and other key figures within the ruling party were involved in defending government policies and often criticized the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, alongside the PDP.
According to Shehu, Pantami had significant influence during the APC government and, in his view, was part of those who consistently held the previous administration responsible for Nigeria’s challenges at the time.
He argued that this history makes the current political narrative more complicated and, in his opinion, calls for accountability regarding past political positions and statements.
He went further to suggest that Pantami should reconsider his past criticisms and offer an apology to Goodluck Jonathan for earlier condemnations made during heated political exchanges.
Shehu also took a broader swipe at what he described as inconsistency in political behavior, noting that shifting allegiance between political platforms for convenience undermines credibility.
He expressed disbelief at the idea of Pantami aligning with a political camp he was previously seen opposing during his time in government.
Such developments reflect a pattern of opportunistic politics driven by ambition rather than principle.
“It will be a great pleasure to see, listen and hear a Pantami promoting an Ebele, the same Ebele who his master, benefactor, PMB so vilified,” he said.
He added that such political moves reflect desperation for power and influence.
Using a metaphor, Shehu compared frequent political defections under pressure to a rat escaping a burning house only to end up in an even more dangerous fire, warning that such decisions often carry serious consequences for those involved.
He also extended his criticism to both the APC and PDP, advising that major political parties should exercise caution when receiving high-profile defectors, stressing the need for proper scrutiny before integrating such figures into their ranks.
He concluded his remarks by warning against excessive ambition in politics and urged public office holders and political actors to reflect deeply on their choices, motivations, and long-term implications of their actions……See More
