Dr. Umar Ardo, a former political stakeholder, has publicly challenged the historical accuracy of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s claims regarding the formation of the All Progressives Congress. Ardo dismissed the assertion that Amaechi anchored the coalition, providing a detailed timeline to clarify when the key actors officially entered the political alliance.
According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News on Tuesday May 26, 2026, while addressing the conflicting accounts of the 2015 merger, he stated, “I think Amaechi is exaggerating because he did not form the APC, as the party was already registered in July 2013.”
The politician explained that the structural foundations of the opposition party were completed well before the mass defection of the G-7 governors occurred. Ardo noted that the registration process had been concluded by earlier stakeholders, making it historically inaccurate for late entrants to claim ownership over the initial conception of the merger.
