I Don’t Think Tinubu Is Aware Of This Political Madness By Those Pretending To Help Him -Ugochinyere

Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives for Ideato North and South, has raised concern that President Bola Tinubu may not be aware of the actions of some politicians who are pursuing a court case to deregister several political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a press briefing aired by Symfoni TV, Ugochinyere stated this while revealing the suit filed by a group calling itself the National Forum of Former Legislators is aimed at removing the ADC, ZLP, Accord Party, NRM, APP, and other opposition parties from the 2027 ballot.

He described the move as dangerous and capable of triggering the kind of democratic crisis Nigeria witnessed in 1963 and 1983, especially since thousands of candidates for the presidency, governorship, National Assembly, and state assemblies are already in the process.

He argued that the case before Justice Lifu of the Federal High Court is procedurally flawed and ignores clear constitutional provisions. He pointed to Section 225A of the Constitution, which states that a party cannot be deregistered once it wins at least one seat in a councilorship, state assembly, national assembly, governorship, or presidential election.

He noted that the ADC, Accord Party, ZLP, and APP have all satisfied this requirement, a position already upheld by the Federal High Court in Uyo and Owerri and by the Court of Appeal.

Ugochinyere accused Justice Lifu of denying a fair hearing by abridging time for defendants without application and proceeding despite appeals and motions for stay filed at the Court of Appeal.

In his words, “We are a few months to an election. You wipe out the entire candidates of an opposition party, like ADC. You wipe that of Accord, Adeleke, who’s going for election in Osun. You wipe APP; you wipe every political party.”

“I don’t think that’s what the ideas of the NADECO struggle was, or if Abiola was alive, that some of them fought for what they would like. And I don’t think the president is fully aware of this political madness by those who are pretending to be helping him. This is not help. This is an invitation to anarchy…..See More
