Farooq Kperogi, a professor of Nigerian-American descent, has mentioned that the political backing for NDC presidential nominee, Peter Obi, is primarily found in the South-East, indicating that he is not likely to achieve notable electoral success in Northern Nigeria.

He indicated that Atiku Abubakar may still have considerable support in Northern Nigeria, but could have difficulty obtaining similar backing in the South. He also pointed out that Peter Obi’s political support is mostly focused in the South-East region.
