According to Daily Post on May 24th, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged delegates of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to focus on competence, experience, and national appeal while selecting a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. He warned against relying on social media popularity and sentiments when making such an important decision for the country.
Speaking through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Nigeria is currently facing serious economic hardship, insecurity, rising debt, and institutional challenges. According to him, the country cannot afford to experiment with inexperienced leadership at a critical time like this.
He stressed that winning elections requires more than online support, adding that governance demands preparation, strategy, and the ability to manage national issues effectively. Atiku maintained that the ADC must present a strong and credible candidate capable of governing from the first day in office.
The former vice president also noted that the next Nigerian leader must possess experience in economic management, crisis resolution, coalition building, and international negotiations.
