Nollywood actress Shan George has stated that despite the difficult end to her first marriage, she has always had a “very cordial relationship” with her children’s father. She said that they were able to successfully co-parent their children, sharing the responsibilities and the costs of their upbringing.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Shan George explained that her ex-husband, who was educated in England, was an “enlightened person” who understood the importance of her having a relationship with her children. While he initially banned her from his house, he eventually relented, and they were able to work together for the good of their kids.
She shared that this cooperative relationship was a blessing, especially during the difficult years of her mother’s illness, as her ex-husband was able to take on the financial responsibility of their children’s education in England, something she would not have been able to afford on her own.
In Shan George’s words: “Their father did everything that a father would do. Their father called, conversed, talked about the kids, the bills, and we both practically took care of the kids. They spent time with him, sometime they spend time with me. We had no issues. Thankfully, my brother, thankfully, because they would have left school. When my mother fell ill and all the bills I had to pay, there’s no way I would have been able to pay school fees for my kids in England. But their father did everything a father should do.
