Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission has taken to his official X handle to react after a police officer identified as Newton Isokpehi threatened to annihilate any individual who dared record him while on duty.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X account on Thursday May 21st, 2026 he disclosed the reasons why the police officer made the threats.
It can be recalled that many were left stunned after Newton Isokpehi made the threats, an act which triggered massive public reactions, with many calling for his immediate dismissal from the police force.
However, while Chidi Odinkalu maintained that his actions were wrong, he also disclosed that the officer needed help as police officers were almost subjected to intolerable working conditions.
He further advised the inspector general of police, Olatunji Disu to withdraw the errant officer from interacting with the public to avoid being a threat to himself, his family and the public.
