Senator Victor Umeh, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has revealed the difficulties faced by the Labour Party during the selection of a running mate for its 2023 presidential campaign, describing the process as challenging and politically delicate.
Umeh made the disclosure during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he reflected on the behind-the-scenes negotiations that shaped the emergence of the 2023 presidential ticket of Peter Obi.
According to him, efforts to secure a vice-presidential candidate from northern Nigeria encountered repeated setbacks, despite initial agreements reached with some of the individuals approached. He explained that many of the discussions appeared successful at first, only for the agreements to collapse shortly before formalization.
