Senator Florence Ita Giwa, popularly known as Mama Bakassi, has spoken about how she went into the creeks of Bakassi during the Bakassi Peninsula border dispute between Nigeria and Cameroon to rescue vulnerable children.
In an interview with Arise TV, Giwa said she was able to rescue about 16 very young children who would have been exposed to different forms of abuse, especially the female children. She stated that the youngest among the rescued children was just one day old at the time.
Giwa disclosed that today, to the glory of God, among those 16 children she rescued, some have grown up to become petroleum engineers while most of them now have good jobs and are doing well in life.
In Senator Giwa’s words: “I was able to go into the creeks of Bakassi to rescue about 16 children, very young age, who would have been subject to abuses, especially the female ones. The youngest was 1 day old. I rescued them and brought them out of the creeks at the time that the conflict with Cameroon was on”…….See More
